Coaching Format

  1. I recommend booking four coaching sessions about a week apart. We schedule the days and times for your sessions. You call me at the agreed upon time. These are real appointments, but we both have the flexibility to reschedule if necessary, but no later than 24-hours before the session. If you miss a session without a prior call, you pay.
  2. Before the first session, you complete a brief questionnaire and email or mail me a "wish list" of your communication goals. Don't edit -- just write everything down you'd like to accomplish in four sessions. I'll determine what's possible over the four sessions.
  3. In the first session we discuss your desired outcomes for the sessions. I begin my assessment of you communication skills.
  4. I give you "conversation practice assignments" based on your daily routines, activities and communication goals.
  5. You identify and schedule upcoming events, meetings, presentations, parties, dates, etc. where you will have an opportunity to practice what we discuss in the sessions.
  6. In the first part of the following session we "debrief" your prior assignments. I ask for clarification, provide feedback, discuss any new issues, situations or encounters.
  7. In the last part of the session we discuss upcoming events, role play upcoming situations and you get a new conversation practice assignment. I offer ongoing assessments of your progress at the end of each session.
  8. In the fourth session we evaluate your overall progress based on your written objectives. Then you decide if you want to continue.

Read what just a few of Don's clients say about his coaching:

"Don-san, you are my teacher, business consultant and best kept secret for three years! You've helped me overcome my fears of public speaking and networking. I now know I can do it!"

Saori Kawano, President and founder of Korin Japanese Trading Corp.

"Don, thank you so much for your superb coaching and support. I felt very good and confident about last night's performance, even though I was shaking and spitting up before going on. You did a wonderful job and I'm ready to recommend you to anyone and everyone so have them call me if you need a reference."

Julie Azuma, President and founder of Different Roads to Learning

"Don, your coaching was very helpful for my presentation. You were able to quickly grasp what's needed and help me develop a smooth flowing presentation that would keep my audience interested. Thank you again!"

Steven Chin, Engineer, Elizabeth Arden

"My phone sessions with Don were one of the best investments I ever made. Every few weeks, I would describe social situations I had coming up, and Don would walk me through potential problems with practical, down-to-earth advice. Whether it was attending a church social, an art exhibition, a professional society dinner, or the inevitable company Christmas party, Don walked me through each event in advance and followed up with me afterwards. Over the course of a few months on the phone with Don, I went from feeling awkward to using the skills without thinking about them. Now, instead of feeling increasing dread as a social event approaches, I can look forward to learning and growing in each new social setting.

I highly recommend Don Gabor’s books and his counseling sessions to those with discomfort in social settings or those who just want to "brush up" on their social skills."

Robert E. Bliss, Development Supervisor, Control Center, Shell Pipeline Company LP

"I want to thank you for your invaluable assistance and key pointers in developing a business presentation. Your enthusiasm and approach turned a normally challenging task into a very enjoyable effort that I will use in the future. My approach in preparing presentations has improved dramatically."

Don Jacobs, CFA, ASA, CFP KPMG
Global Transaction Strategies-Valuation Services

"The speech I had to present not just a regular speech -- it was a eulogy. Through your passion and commitment toward your work, the hardest speech I had to make in my life became the best speech I could of made. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to have one of the most rewarding experiences in my life."

David Shweky, President, Unique Displays, Inc.
